The Kamehameha water polo team looked as good as always.

Kiana Krzyska and Sydney Plunkett made sure of that.

Krzyska scored 17 goals and Plunkett added 10 as the two-time defending league champions coasted to a pair of victories during the opening day of the season in Waimea.

Krzyska scored 10 goals in an 18-8 victory against Waiakea. Earlier, the Warriors downed Hilo 17-10. Plunkett tallied five goals in each match for Kamehameha, which is bidding for its third straight undefeated BIIF season minus two-time Player of the Year Ryenn Lyons.

Bhillie Luciani led the way as Hawaii Prep also picked up two victories. Luciani scored seven times in a 20-10 victory over Ka’u and added five goals in a 14-7 win against the Vikings.

Freshman Hannah Parkin scored twice in each match for the Ka Makani, while coach Matt Biondi credited Tori Campbell with a stellar game in goal against Hilo.

In addition to the contributions of Krzyska and Plunkett, Tori Hiro scored twice and Acacia Trusdell, Cassidy Fratinardo and Pua Wong each found the net against Hilo. Rei Izawa led the Vikings with six goals, while Jana Ancheta, Nicole Grande, Delcee Ramos and Kayla Ongais each scored once.

Kamehameha also got two goals from Baba Manoha and another tally from Fratinardo in its win against Waiakea, which lost despite Akemi King’s hat trick. Katie Torigoe added two scores, and Lauren Hill, Courtney Shinde and Rachelle Krahner each had a goal.

Led by Hill and King, Waiakea — which joined Kamehameha at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association tournament last season —opened the day with a 14-6 win against Kealakehe.

The result of the match between the Waveriders and Trojans was not available at press time.
